Watchtower - “Oh [REDACTED], Where Art Thou?”
Another element of a larger project, this watchtower is the central focal point of it’s scene. Acting as a kind of ‘Eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg’ from the Great Gatbsy or the classic ‘All Seeing Eye’ motif, this watchtower grandly overlooks the hellscape it exists in. Modled after a dull, industrial prison watchtower, it represents God in this scene. Or, the lack thereof. The viewer is uncertain if the watchtower is occupied or not, visually shown by the glass being foggy and damaged. As is such in life, the existence of an occupied, all-seeing watchtower is not, and will not, be known to the viewer.
While other elements of the scene are more on the realistic side, I aimed to keep this element low-poly. I liked the juxtaposition of such a central visual object, one with huge underlying significance to the overall narrative, being kept mundane and simple in its design.
I used MAYA to create this object and Substance Painter 3D to texture it.
